What might seem like a generic guiding theme for a sustainability report actually fits very well with the importance of sustainability at Messer: ever since our industrial gases company was founded 125 years ago, the conservation of resources, the protection of our environment and the search for more efficient processes have played central roles for us. 

Messer's declared goal is to keep its own carbon footprint as small as possible. At the same time, we support our clientele in reducing the emissions of their applications. We achieve this through the impact of our gas applications and through efficient gas supply. We consistently exploit environmentally friendly potential, such as that offered by hydrogen as an alternative to fossil raw materials or the recovery of carbon dioxide.

In 2022, we continued our efforts to achieve greater sustainability. We have succeeded in this in many places. In others, we continue to look for ways to become even better. For Messer, perseverance and the continuous questioning of existing solutions are prerequisites for greater sustainability. This is what we have been working on for 125 years and will continue to do so in the future.
 

In 2015, under the aegis of the United Nations, the international community adopted Agenda 2030. It lays out 17 global goals together with the call to implement measures to achieve those goals. In essence, they seek to permanently preserve the natural basis of human existence and to enable people everywhere to live in dignity. Messer aligns its business activities with the 17 UN Sustainability Goals, which also form, in turn, the substantive framework of this Sustainability Report.

In particular, the Sustainable Development Goals No Poverty, Health and Well-being, Quality Education, Gender Equality, Decent Work and Economic Growth, Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, Resonsible Consumption and Production, Climate Action and Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions are of great importance to Messer.

Both global and local projects and activities, as well as initiatives supported by Messer, contribute to various sustainability goals. The individual projects contribute to long-term improvement and can be viewed on the following pages:
